Don’t Forget Other Mosquito Borne Diseases

The mosquito transmitted West Nile virus is still very much a problem within the United States. At the moment, all the media attention seems to be focused on the threat of the rapidly spreading Zika virus, but let’s not forget the other harmful mosquito borne diseases.

West Nile Virus Detected in Mosquito Pool in PG County

Health and agriculture officials say West Nile virus has been detected in a mosquito pool in Prince George’s County, the first such pool found in the state this year.

Many health and agricultural departments are taking action and spraying areas to control the mosquito population. However, there are steps you can take to get your own mosquito control in place.  If we all contribute to our own protection by utilizing what preventative methods are available to us, we’re playing our part in the fight against all of these diseases and the never ending battle against mosquitoes.

 

Malaria, Chikungunya, Dengue, Zika,  Yellow Fever, West Nile virus…. the list goes on, and over time, there will be more and more that are discovered and equally as life threatening.
