Mosquitoes are Here, There and Everywhere

The UK has now had it’s first ‘alert’ when it comes to the Zika virus. The eggs of a mosquito that could possibly be the culprit of transmitting the virus have been found in the Folkestone, Kent. So how have these critters arrived in the United Kingdom? Here’s an article with further information.

‘Zika mosquito’ eggs found near Folkestone in Kent

People in Stanford near Folkestone have been sent letters telling them Asian tiger mosquito eggs had been discovered nearby. Public Health England said no further evidence of the insect had been detected. It said there was “currently no risk to public health in the UK”.

The Zika virus is considered to be a global, public health emergency, so we need to make sure that we are protected against mosquitoes at all times.

As the video says…the simple way to not get the disease, is not to be bitten. Spray yourself, protect your home. Do all you can to ensure you avoid these disease spreading pests.

Essential Science: New ideas for avoiding mosquito bites

Bites from mosquitoes range from the annoying to the dangerous, depending upon whether the mosquito is a vector for a dangerous virus. Mosquitoes do not bite indiscriminately, with some preferring people to other mammals.  This tendency, for a cow, say, over a human, or the other way around, has implications for disease transmission and for mosquito control. Scientists have been looking into this and a genetic basis for the different biting behavioral patterns for mosquitoes has been identified.

What we know from this news is that nowhere on this planet is safe! Mosquitoes and the debilitating and life threatening viruses that they can carry are here, there and everywhere.
