Mosquitoes: Tiny Creature with Enormous Impact

Residents of Camden County in South Jersey are being urged to be vigilant when it comes to exposure to mosquitoes. This is due to another diagnosis of West Nile Virus in the area, a mosquito borne disease that comes from these pests feeding on infected birds.  Here’s an article with more information.

South Jersey man diagnosed with West Nile Virus

The 65-year-old Camden County man was admitted to a local hospital on Sept. 12 with “typical symptoms” before being transferred to a hospital in Pennsylvania eight days later, the county board of freeholders said in a statement. He is the second Camden County resident to be diagnosed with West Nile this year.

With mosquito borne illness a high profile topic in the news these days, it’s not just the threat of Zika that we need to be mindful of. All of these diseases pose a threat to us!

Are you aware of the symptoms? Are you making sure you have the knowledge you need to protect yourself from what are both potentially devastating diseases? When was the last time you made sure your mosquito control was up to date. Wherever you are located, we are all at risk!

West Nile Virus: New Cases Reported In New York State, Wisconsin, Mississippi, Kentucky And Washington, DC

While there have been 25,000 confirmed Zika cases in the U.S., reports and confirmed cases of West Nile virus, a mosquito-borne and potentially fatal illness, continue to mount in various regions this week. Six people in Long Island, New York, have been infected with West Nile virus, with three in Nassau County and three in Suffolk County, health officials reported on Monday.

We may think that contracting a mosquito borne virus won’t ever happen to us, that the chances are small… This is not a risk worth taking! The threat is very real, so please, please make sure that you protect yourself from this tiny creature who can have an enormous impact on your life.
