Are you still performing your ‘tick check rituals’ throughout the fall? Just because the weather is starting to change, doesn’t mean these Lyme disease spreading pests are less active. In fact, they’re making a nuisance of themselves even more so, and are looking for a tasty feast to keep their energy topped up during the change of season.
Fall Tick Alert: This time of year, they’re all deer ticks
Frost won’t kill them: they are still here. Through the fall and early winter months, you can bet that any tick you find will be an adult stage blacklegged (deer) tick. The tiny poppy seed-sized nymph ticks that got a blood meal in late spring and summer have now grown up. The black and red colored adult females are extremely active NOW, looking to steal their own blood meal, mainly from deer but people and pets. The all-black, smaller male deer ticks are active too but they don’t engorge.
Take a quick look at this video from last year. These tiny pests are carrying a huge health risk, and what’s even scarier is that if we’re not observant enough to see them, they could be feasting on us right now!
Ticks are nasty little critters that can carry diseases such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and ehrlichiosis. Unfortunately, ticks are common across the US. This brief article will help you locate ticks, and remove them from the body.
Don’t become the next victim of a tick borne disease. It takes just a few minutes to check yourself over, and take action should you notice a hitchhiking tick.
