Keep the Spring in your Step this Springtime: Avoid Mosquitoes

Springtime has arrived! The warmer weather is here and in Maryland it has been the warmest week so far. Remember, it’s not just your shades and flip flops that will need to come out to play, you also need to get the bug repellent out. Mosquitoes will be out enjoying the warmer climates too.

Maryland Weather Forecast: Warmest Week Of Spring Yet

Based on the way things look now, Wednesday should be the only true down note of the week, with mostly cloudy skies and a slight chance of showers. Things should cool off a bit toward the end of the week — but not by much. This is expected to be a stretch that most definitely feels like spring.

With mosquitoes enjoying the spring time too, there comes along with them the threat of Zika and many other diseases transmitted by these irritating pests.

The potential continuation of the spread of Zika is on the mind of health officials and so we need to do what we can to reduce the spread of this harmless virus, in particular to pregnant women and their unborn babies.

CDC Issues New Warning On Zika Virus Ahead Of Mosquito Season

Zika may seem like last year’s problem, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it’s not. The CDC published a study this week on where we are with Zika in the U.S. We’re learning more every day about the range of the birth defects, but we do know that it causes these serious brain abnormalities. It can cause problems with vision, problems with hearing. And there are other consequences, like these very stiff joints that can require lifelong, specialized care for these babies.

Keep that spring in your step this springtime and avoid mosquitoes and their tendency to come along and enjoy the season with us…uninvited!
