Roaches – you might as well refer to them as ninjas. This is because you’ll hardly ever see them, and even when you do, they disappear in a crack in a flash. They can also stay so well out of sight until you imagine they are gone forever. But do not allow yourself to be deceived. These pesky insects are not just in your home looking for a place to put up. Without proper action, they can quickly turn into your worst nightmare.
Not quite sure whether these bugs are in your home? You’ll be surprised when you learn some of the places they like to disappear to.
Where Do Cockroaches Hide?
Cockroaches are nocturnal insects. They prefer to live and feed in the dark, so a cockroach seen during the day is a possible sign of infestation. Cockroaches tend to prefer dark, moist places to hide and breed and can be found behind refrigerators, sinks and stoves, as well as under floor drains and inside of motors and major appliances. Because they can flatten their bodies to fit into narrow areas, cockroaches may also be found hiding beneath rubber mats, behind wallpaper and within wall cracks.
Cockroach Droppings
Cockroach feces will be visible during an infestation. Small roaches produce feces that resemble coffee grounds or black pepper, while larger roaches expel cylindrical droppings. The quantity of visible feces is oftentimes a good indicator of the level or duration of infestation. Read more at Orkin…
You may be dealing with an infestation if you notice terrible odors accompanying the droppings. You should also look out for oval-shaped cockroach eggs in the dark corners of your home.

Since cockroaches can taint your food and countertops with illness-causing E. coli and salmonella, don’t take an infestation lightly. If you’re struggling to eradicate roaches or identify where they’re coming from, you may need to bring in pest control professionals to pinpoint the source of the issue.
Cut cockroaches off from their food supply.
Just like people, these pests need sustenance to survive. Unlike people, they can live off almost anything left out for them, like unopened food, debris, and even crumbs.
Start by cleaning spilled or leftover food. A forgotten cereal box in the back of the cabinet is a gold mine for roaches. Don’t leave any dishes on the counter or in the sink either, advises Orkin entomologist Chelle Hartzer. Read more at Good Housekeeping…
