Ticks carrying Lyme disease now in almost half of U.S. counties
Ticks that can spread Lyme disease now live in almost half of U.S. counties, according to a new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Varieties of the deer tick that may carry bacteria responsible for Lyme disease are present in 45 percent of counties nationwide, compared with just 30 percent in 1998, researchers found.
These tiny ticks cause big problems and they are showing up here, there and everywhere!
Lyme Disease Ticks Double Range Over Past Twenty Years
Our study shows that over the past nearly 20 years, the distribution of Lyme disease vectors has changed substantially, with notable increases in the North-Eastern and North-Central States. The tick is now established in areas where it was absent 20 years ago.
