Remove Mosquitoes from the Food Chain

What would happen if the world was free of mosquitoes? Imagine a place with no disease or death caused by these needle nosed pests, no irritating bites or buzzing in the ear. It sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? What’s the catch?

Would it be wrong to eradicate mosquitoes?

The mosquito is the most dangerous animal in the world, carrying diseases that kill one million people a year. Now the Zika virus, which is carried by mosquitoes, has been linked with thousands of babies born with brain defects in South America. Should the insects be wiped out?

If you remove something totally out of the food chain then there are of course repercussions. As much as we would love to live in a mosquito free world, these critters are a tasty meal for other creatures. Like this dragonfly…

We can still keep them out of our back yards though. I’m sure a hungry dragon fly can find a tasty treat out there in the wild, but when it comes to our home environments, let’s try to keep them as pest free as possible.
