Three Signs That Show Your Yard Urgently Needs Rodent Control
Rodents are creatures that will live and thrive anywhere on the planet! That includes sewer lines as well as any majestic castle. And in this case, they can be just under your nose, but lurking out there. So, if you’re happy that they aren’t in your home, beware that they might be right outside your door. Yes, they also enjoy staying outdoors in your garden and yard. So, you need to know what to look out for.
If you see gnaw marks on wooden walls near your yard or on plants, if you see funny long-tailed creatures running around, if you see those tiny footmarks, you’ve got rodents.
Learn more details about these signs below:
Sign #1: Gnaw marks
Rodents have forever-growing front teeth. So, to help reduce the size of their teeth, they are forever chewing on things. What’s worse is that they chew on literally anything valuable in your home and outdoors. Ask anyone who’s had their car not functioning because their wires were no more- thanks to the chewy rodents. You can be sure it is not funny. Gnaw marks on wooden boards, on wires, on plant stems, they are telling you a lot.
In contrast to the droppings, newer gnaw marks will be lighter in color and become darker as they age. These will often be found on food packaging or the structure of the house itself. One way to determine age is to compare a gnaw mark you just noticed with those on a similar material that you know are older. If the newly found marks are lighter in color, it could be an indication of a continuing infestation. The marks can also indicate whether you have rats or mice; larger gnaw marks will have been produced by the larger teeth of rats. Thus if you had a mouse infestation, but are now seeing larger gnaw marks, you may now have rats. Read more from The Spruce…
Sign #2: Rodents running in your yard
Rodents love to live in secrecy. They aren’t bold enough to face homeowners. This means if they notice you are around, they will scamper away from you. And you don’t want to imagine yourself chasing after them, do you? It would be very frustrating to try hunting them down once you see them. But, it would be better to take it as a sign that you need to get the rodent control experts’ assistance.
Keep an eye out for activity in your garden, especially at dawn and dusk. Watch for rats along power lines, fences, and trees. If you see them at night but not during the day, you’re probably dealing with a small population that can be easily handled. If you see them during the day as well, the population is large and professional services might be necessary. Read more from Garden Beast…
Sign #3: Rodent footmarks
Rodents have weird feet that are small yet each has five somehow long toes. You will easily spot these prints on loose soil or on clean floorboards near your yard. You can consult with a certified pest and rodent control expert on what rodents you might be dealing with in your home.
Rats move a lot, in fact – they are often so active that leaving footprints is inevitable. Since they inhabit dusty or contaminated areas, whenever the rodents walk on such surfaces their feet and tails leave very distinct footprints. There is even a very simple way to find out if the marks were left any time soon and if the rats are still there.
Disperse some flour or anything with similar texture and wait for 1 or 2 days. It will most certainly take only several hours until the vermin walk over it for an inspection. By doing this they will leave the very same marks you’ve seen before. This means, a pest control should be initiated immediately, otherwise, the rat population may increase way too fast, which will cause even more problems and will definitely cost you more to get rid of them later.
